10 Popular Tattoo Designs
These days, it is becoming more and more fashionable for people of all ages and backgrounds to get tattoos. Tattoos, which used to be moderately proscribed, are now generally a socially acceptable for of body art. Though definite designs might modify on occasion, there are still quite a lot of popular subjects that remain popular when it comes to getting a tattoo.
1) Tribal/Maori tattoos: Tribal tattoo designs can be a variety of designs, from long-established indigenous designs that date back hundreds of years to newer, more contemporary graphic designs. Maori patterns originate from Polynesia and are especially geometric in form. For the most part Maori designs are based on a central spiral shape.
2) Religious symbols: There are several different kinds of religious symbols, including the cross, angels, and crown. A cross can either be used to be representative of one’s faith, or used to memorialize a loved one. Angels can be worn as a sign of protection, or also used as a memorial. Crowns, especially thorny crowns, might be used in conjunction with a cross to show Jesus’ sacrifice. Crowns can also signify courage and authority.
3) Stars: The meaning behind the star more often than not has something to do with the number of points it contains. Pentagrams, the Star of David, and the Nautical Star are all potential star designs. The star can possibly represent forces of nature, as well as the light that can be found within darkness.
4) Butterflies: Traditionally used to symbolize the soul in Greek mythology, today, butterflies are mostly worn by women for their beauty and elegance.
5) Dragons: Dragons represent the four elements, Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. Coming from the Far East, dragons are neither good nor bad and illustrate the power of the earth itself. Dragon designs may also be worn to demonstrate domination.
6) Words: Using words is still probably one of the most popular things to do within a tattoo design. Single words, such as names, are often used to commemorate a person such as a child or parent. However, simple phrases that are meaningful to the wearer are also used.
7) Flowers: Flowers are unquestionably one of the most fashionable designs, especially for women. There are many different types of flower designs available to choose from, depending on the look that one is going for. From sentimental red roses to intricate lilies, there are virtually thousands of options. Flowers can also be used in conjunction with other designs as well.
Birds: Much like flowers, there are countless types of bird tattoos and each bird generally stands for something different. Eagles might be a sign of strength and valor while the phoenix can symbolize overcoming difficulties. Even hummingbirds and doves, a sign of peace, have their place in the tattoo world. Wings themselves might have spiritual meaning, as well as represent freedom.
9) Fantasy: Mermaids, unicorns, and faeries are all popular designs. They can be worn either to indicate a straightforward love of the fantasy realm, or they can be a cultural demonstration for those that engage in alternative religious practices.
10) Hearts: Showing off your love of love is still one of the most popular designs out there. Hearts can be used to show your feelings towards a loved one, name included within the design, or can they can simply be stand alone designs by themselves.
Regardless of the fact that designs go in and out of fashion, some subjects never change in popularity. When most people get tattoos, they try to find something that showcases their individuality and says something about their personality. Then again, this isn’t always the case because sometimes you just want something that looks cool.
