Aboard HMAS Sydney are two ships mascots who don’t agree: Able Seaman J. T. Walker with his pup "Shrapnel" and Able Seaman Gamble with his cat "Salvo".

That is so sad. Thank you for telling us. It sent a shiver down my spine when i realised that the those in the picture didn’t survive the war. It is tragic.

Very well said. The photo is touching and evocative. It’s sad to think all those pictured here may have been among those who died in battle only a year later… that really puts this scene in perspective.
